April is a special time of year along our beaches. The temps are rising, the beaches are heating up and the fish are flying! Yes, the fish. It’s time for the annual Flora-Bama Lounge Mullet Toss in Perdido Key, Florida.

As silly as it may sound, if you have ever taken a vacation to Perdido Key or Orange Beach then you have probably heard about the great mullet toss, if not actually participated. The Flora-Bama Lounge has hosted this iconic event, along with the Gulf Coast Greatest Beach Party, for nearly 30 years.

A good time is guaranteed when you reserve a Perdido Key vacation rental and attend this amazing spring event on the Gulf Coast. Pack your swimsuit, sunglasses and hand sanitizer; you’ll be getting a little slimey as you attempt to toss your mullet. The best part of this party? It raises money for a terrific cause, the Community Drug & Alcohol Council.

The Mullet Man Triathlon is a recent addition to the lineup of events in conjunction with the annual mullet toss. While this event is designed to be fun, it is also quite challenging as it consists of a swim and run along our beaches. It’s also quite rewarding as the proceeds from the runners all benefit a wonderful cause, local youth charties of both Florida and Alabama.

The triathlon consists of a 1/4 mile swim through the Gulf of Mexico waters, 17 mile bike ride over a paved road and a 4 mile run back to the Flora-Bama Lounge for awards and the post-race party. Food and drinks will be provided for the racers but spectators are encouraged to join as well. Whether you’re going to race in the triathlon or just simply want to watch while on vacation in Perdido Key, head out and support this greate event on April 20, 2013!

This local event has quickly become an area favorite. The festival will take place at the Villagio Shopping Center. The arts portion is free to attend and takes place on both Friday and Saturday while the wine tasting event is from 12-8 PM and costs $15. This cost includes unlimited sampling from the available vendors as well as commemorative wine glass. You’ll love learning more about each wine as each vineyard representative will be on-hand and available to discuss each selection and answer questions. Live entertainment will also be available each day.
