Outdoor Fun on The Forgotten Coast

As with all of Southern Vacation Rentals’ coastal destinations, the beach offers much to do, including swimming, kayaking, boating, parasailing and more. The Forgotten Coast, however, adds a few twists not found in all other destinations.

Diving enthusiasts here have a little perk off-shore in the Gulf. Not just any sunken wreck off the coast, but apparently, THE wreck dive of the Gulf of Mexico – The Empire Mica is located just 26 miles off the Cape. Take a close look at this British tanker, sunk in 1942 by German U Boat, U-67.

Another unique feature is horseback riding on the beach in Cape San Blas, only a 20-30 minute drive from Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach.

Probably the most popular activity is the quest for succulent scallops in season. Visitors come from all over, even other beach communities in Florida, to find and feast on bay scallops. It is a wonderful and easy family pastime.
