Fishing On The Forgotten Coast
The Forgotten Coast is well known for its unique fishing opportunities. The Gulf of Mexico harbors an abundance of fish within reach from the beach for surf fishing, and from a boat, both inshore and offshore. Some of the commonly found fish in St. Joe’s Bay and the Northwest Fl Gulf waters are tarpon, grouper, cobia, pompano, snapper, mackerel, drum and flounder. The Gulf feeds into the protected St. Joseph’s Bay where pristine islands and grass beds shelter even more sea life, including the infamous scallop. Here on the Forgotten Coast, July 1- September 10 is open harvest season for bay scallops, which can only be harvested by hand, not commercially. This is great fun for the entire family. Easily gathered in 2-5 feet of water, people can wade along the beds or snorkel for them. A fishing license is required if you are 16+years.
