The Forgotten Coast For Nature Lovers
Tour the Forgotten Coast in Gulf County, discovering much of it left untouched and natural as it has been for hundreds of years. A section of our county is located in the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, one of the largest reserves in the country, fostering many species of fauna and plant life. A portion of the coastline is also protected as the St. Joseph Bay Buffer Preserve. It is easy to see how our beach communities have become a nature lover’s dream destination.
Canoe or kayak the waterways or break the surface exploring the abundance of sea life underwater. Find starfish, crabs, urchins and even seahorses. Hike on trails on the look out for “birding” opportunities, including spotting a Bald Eagle. Wander the shoreline looking for shells or simply soak in a beautiful sunset. The possibilities seem endless on our coast.
