Outdoor Fun ~ Things to Do Along the Beaches of South Walton

While the Beaches of South Walton may be best known for its relaxing atmosphere, our area boasts some wonderful outdoor activities to complement the serene surroundings. Paddleboard in one of our Costal Dunes Lakes or, if more adventurous, try it in the Gulf of Mexico. Surf lessons at the beach are a must for children of all ages to learn an appreciation of the waves and this art form. It’s fun, too. Biking and kayaking are probably the most popular activities, other than swimming, in our beach communities. They make for wonderful family time on vacation, as well.With the 30A bicycle path, and state parks along the way, there are plenty of places to bike, hike and enjoy.If you still want a little more action, our Miramar beach community, closer to Destin, offers wave runner and sailing rentals from the beach. Parasailing is another fun pastime. Let a boat pull you as you dangle 100+ feet in the air, enjoying one of the best views of our coastline. Camp Helen State Park – Bordering the Beaches of South Walton on the east is this park in Panama City Beach. Surrounded on three sides by the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell– one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida it is a wonderful spot for swimming, beachcombing, nature study, hiking, and both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Deer Lake State Park – In Santa Rosa Beach, Deer Lake Park offers an amazing view of the dune ecosystem and Deer Lake a rare coastal dune lake. Boardwalks across the dunes offer easy access to the beach for picnicking, swimming and fishing.

Eden Garden State Park – Consistently ranked among the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the United States, this beach park provides a peaceful setting for discovery, swimming and fishing. Paddleboard or kayak on Western Lake getting a closer look at a salt marsh ecosystem. Nature trails wind through a coastal forest and a boat ramp awaits your craft.

Shipwreck Island - Just to the east is Panama City Beach’s Shipwreck Island. This water park is a great value for thrill seekers, families and kids!

The Track – In Destin, the Track is your family headquarters for fun. This action-packed recreation center features the ultimate in go-kart tracks, miniature golf, bumper boats. For the more adventurous visitor, take your chance on bungee jumping here.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park – In Santa Rosa Beach, you can find 3.2 miles of secluded, natural beaches with majestic dunes reaching up over 25 feet tall. Home to three coastal dune lakes, Topsail is complete with hiking trails, boardwalks to the beach and so much more.
