A Fun Weekend on the Emerald Coast
This week, we’ve informed you of many events occuring in the various areas of our coast this weekend. The weather has taken a slight dip in temperature making it even more comfortable to enjoy some weekend events.
The Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival, Mexico Beach Art & Wine Festival, Rootin Tootin Rodeo Round Up & the Baytowne Wharf Beerfest will each have plenty of people out and about as the holiday season inches closer. Click the titles above as they’ll link you to the article and particular area.

Rootin Tootin Rodeo Round Up!
The Destin Fishing Rodeo kicked off at the beginning of October and lasts throughout the entire month. Anglers from near and far come to Destin and compete to hook the best fish in each category. But, how can the kids get involved?
The Rootin Tootin Rodeo Round Up is taking place this Saturday October 17, 2009. Bring your children ages 12 and under to the Okaloosa Island Pier for a fun filled morning of fishing. The event begins at 9:00am and finishes up with lunch on the dock at 12:00pm. It’s only $10 per kid and it includes the pier fee for the child and his/her parents, a t-shirt, bait, a rod and reel that they can keep and lunch.
Destin is definitely the place for families. The Destin Fishing Rodeo and Rootin Tootin Rodeo Round Up is a perfect example of the spirit of Destin being passed on to the next generation. Known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” Destin has made its way into millions of people’s hearts.

Baytowne Wharf Beerfest 2009

The 2009 Baytowne Wharf Beerfest is officially kicking off this weekend. In honor of the German celebration of Oktoberfest, American specialty beers from across our great nation will be celebrated. Over 100 international and domestic beers will be available for sampling with representatives encouraging you to learn about the different types.
Throughout Friday and Saturday there will be beer seminars, beer tours, beer wars, craft beer tasting, and more. There will also be live music on Saturday from 2-7pm. The advance ticket price is $20 through October 16th then it will raise to $25 per ticket. Whether you’re staying in Destin, 30A, Beaches of South Walton, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, or Niceville, you are sure to have a wonderful time at the Baytowne Wharf Beerfest.

Mexico Beach Art & Wine Festival 2009
The 11th Annual Mexico Beach Art & Wine Festival will take place this Saturday October 17th at the Driftwood Inn. This is the highlight event of the year for Mexico Beach as artists from across the country show a variety of works as visitors enjoy their wine, view the displays, listen to the live music on the beach and register for fantastic silent auctions.
What are your plans this weekend? Don’t sit at home, grab your loved one or get your family together for a trip to Mexico Beach. The 2009 Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival
It’s that time again! The 2009 Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival of Niceville is here again for its 33rd year and promises a great time for the entire family. Arts and crafts along with food concessions are just the start of this festival featuring live performances by Chuck Wicks, Blake Shelton, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Although the Festival may not get as much publicity along the Emerald Coast as the Destin or Panama City Seafood Festivals, The Mullet Festival usually attracts an even larger crowd. The festival has grown in popularity by word of mouth but recently received some free advertising from the premium cable channel HBO. On HBO’s weekly series “True Blood”, one of the main characters wore a Mullet Festival T-Shirt that was quickly noticed by many people along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. Then, in a separate episode, an extra was spotted clearly wearing another Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival T-Shirt. There is no real reason for HBO choosing the clothing option, it was just a fortunate boost of awareness for this great yearly festival.

Fourth Annual Car Show at Grand Boulevard
The Fourth Annual Charity Car Show at Grand Boulevard in Sandestin will be shifting into motion this Saturday October 10th from 11am-3pm. Admission is free as visitors of all ages are encouraged to come and enjoy over 100 of the finest cars including Porsche, Lamboghini, Ferrari, Lotus, motorcycles and many more.
Car enthusiasts, motorcycle lovers, and anyone who enjoys fine motorized vehicles will have a great time at this event as Cheryl Jones from the Band Jones & Company will be providing live entertainment. Whether you’re coming from Destin, 30A, Beaches of South Walton, Panama City Beach, or Fort Walton Beach you are sure to get your fill of exotic cars.

Southern Resorts in Our Emerald Coast Communities
Southern Resorts Vacation Rentals enjoys an active role in helping local communities. With vacation accommodations including beach homes, cottages, and condos ranging from Pensacola Beach all the way to St. Joe Beach (Port St. Joe) there are many different opportunities for us to get involved. Neighborhood cleanups, coaching youth leagues, and sponsoring sports teams are a few of the ways we like to give back to the community. Employees are also encouraged to devote themselves to worthy causes outside of the company’s realm.
Thus, we begin our monthly spotlight on Southern Resorts in the local community and the employees whom deserve recognition for their hard volunteer work. This month, we are happy to celebrate the great soccer coaching offered by Lisa (pictured above) to Destin Youth Soccer. Leaving from work and heading directly to the soccer fields at Morgan’s Sports Complex, Lisa shows a true passion for helping others as she spends many hours per week putting the kids through practices and games.
Southern Resorts is also honored to sponsor a youth soccer team in Port St. Joe (pictured above). By helping the local children it helps to provide brighter days for our future as the kids become happier, healthier, and smarter from each effort to help them grow.

Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine, & Music Festival
The Panama City Beach Seafood, Wine, & Music Festival is here which makes it a perfect time for you to visit the Beaches of Northwest Florida. Festival hours are Friday Oct. 9th from 4pm – 11pm & 11am-11pm on both Saturday Oct. 10th and Sunday Oct. 11th
Live music will be flowing through the festival all weekend as Julianne Hough, John Anderson, STYX, and Grand Funk Railroad are each featured during this amazing once a year Festival.
Along with music, the celebration of treasured local seafood will also be the focus of the weekend as local Chef’s provide delicious tastes from restaurants such as Breakers, Salt Water Grill, Firefly, Hammerhead Fred’s, Boatyard, and many more. Cooking exhibitions will take place at the on site kitchen constructed specifically for this event.
Each day will also feature grand wine tastings, rare wine auctions and more with Florida’s own Republic National as the exclusive wine partner of the Festival.
