Tuesday, July 15, 2008Kids Night at Baytowne Wharf in Destin Florida
Today is Tuesday and if you have not planned anything for tonight, I highly recommend going to Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin, just east of Destin, Florida. Every Tuesday night they have kids activities starting at 7PM with jumping "playgrounds and slides", boat riding, music activities and a very nice playground. Lexi, my 4 year old just loved it last week. We will definitely be back there. The end of a great evening is their fireworks. Unfortunately, we did not experience it since that was the ONLY thing my Lexi did not like. Hopefully that will change soon.

Friday, June 27, 2008Emerald Coast Blue Marlin ClassicHead to the Village of Baytowne in Destin tonight and/or tomorrow night to witness the spectacular night time weigh-ins held at the Baytowne Marina for this annual bilfish tournament. The Emerald Coast Classic is a "modified release" tournament and led the Gulf Coast tournament circuit in setting high minimum lengths for blue marlin. Release points are awarded for blue marlin, in addition to white marlin, sailfish and spearfish. The three heaviest weighed blue marlin, dolphin, tuna and wahoo are eligible for cash awards, as are the top three teams entered in the All Release Division, and the top three Crews entered in the Crew Division. Seeing these magnificent fish big and small is always a lot of fun. The atmosphere surrounding the docks is exciting and the evening life at the Village presents something for everyone. For information on the tournament, visit here. For information on great deals this summer on Destin vacations, visit Southern Resorts Vacation Rentals. Wednesday, February 20, 2008Solaris Cruise![]() I attended a business luncheon on board the beautiful Solaris by Sunquest Cruises. It was a wonderful setting for our committee and, I am sure for any event. Docked at The Baytowne Marina, just staying there was a treat in itself. The yacht has three decks, each positioned to offer a little something different. From the flexible floor plans and audio video hookups for business groups to the private bridal suite and ceremony location for wedding parties, the Solaris has it all. Reserve the entire evening for yourself or group or join the public for a dinner cruise with live entertainment. I felt like I could spend an eternity there.
Southern Resorts is proud to have them as a favorite partner! Tuesday, February 05, 2008Celebrating Fat Tuesday at Baytowne
I am heading out of the office momentarily to The Village of Baytowne in Sandestin to witness the 6th Annual Fat Tuesday Baytowne Bash Parade. Always hosting a wonderful show and/or attraction, Baytowne is one of my favorite places to go in Destin. Our family spends many events there and I love the traditions developing.
Live music, entertainment, great dining and shopping are big draws for us. The beauty of the Village speaks for itself. It is nice to have a charming slice of New Orleans ambiance here in Destin. Look to Southern Resorts' event calendar for upcoming events this Spring and Summer. It is never too early to plan a trip to the beach! Friday, November 23, 2007Christmas on the Coast
With Thanksgiving just a day behind us, Christmas season officially starts. I, honestly, would LOVE it to be year round.
I often long to return to a big city during this particular season with all the lights, decorations, things to do and, of course, shopping. While I still do, I have also watched our beach community develop and offer so much for locals and visitors. The shopping in Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Sandestin and Beaches of South Walton is incredible and getting better every year. The tree lightings, boat parades, and ballets are just a few wonderful events helping us celebrate the season. If you want a small town view, try Defuniak Springs' Christmas Reflections. This spectacular light display with over 4 1/2 million lights surrounding beautiful Lake DeFuniak in Historic Downtown DeFuniak Springs starts tonight and runs through Christmas. Another event to jump start the Holiday season is tomorrow night at one of my favorite places - the Village of Baytowne. After Santa’s magical arrival to Baytowne Wharf, join Mr. Claus and friends for the lighting of the Village Christmas Tree! From 5:30pm - 9:00pm, enjoy live music and other fun, holiday activities, including a special holiday fireworks display over the lagoon in the Village's Events Plaza. Look to this blog for more wonderful events as the unfold, or visit Southern Resorts' Event Calendar for a big picture look at what may be happening in Destin and surrounding areas, including Panama City Beach and Port St Joe. I hope the spirit of the season is with everyone and you can enjoy all that our community offers! Sunday, November 11, 2007Boogie Art Car Show III did take my daughter and two of her friends to the Baytowne Boogie Art Car show today in Destin at Sandestin, actually, and had a great time. We started off at the crazy decorated cars and trucks. We saw a guitar car, all kinds of painted cars and the Bubble Truck. This truck had gadgets everywhere that you could use to create bubbles, big and small. The girls loved it. We then spent the next hour or so in the ice skating tent. This was a real treat to these southerners from Destin. The girls do not get many opportunities to feel ice beneath their feet. They went around and around that ice. It was wonderful, not too crowded. There were even a few that looked like they knew exactly what they were doing. Then, it was off for ice cream and then to the playground. The afternoon ended with admiring the art wall featuring art from the local schools in Destin and the Beaches of South Walton. Yes, we even found the piece my daughter painted. It was a wonderful afternoon and again, fantastic weather for the kids to be out and about. There really is so much to do in the Destin area during the fall, whether it is relaxing at the beach building sandcastles or venturing out to one of the centers for shopping like the Village, taking advantage of fun events & festivals like this!
Saturday, November 10, 2007Baytowne Boogie Art Car Weekend
My friend Tina told me about an event in Destin that I must have overlooked. The Village of Baytowne in Sandestin hosted today and tomorrow until 3pm The "Baytowne Boogie" Art Car Weekend. It consists of a Kids Art Party in the Plaza, Free Ice Skating, Creation of Kids’ Art Car & Art Wall and an Art Car Display in the Village. The Village hosts lots of events and it is somewhere that both my 8 year old daughter and I love to go. I 'll be sure to take her there tomorrow and let you know how it was. If weather is any indication, it will be wonderful. We had another perfect day in Destin, Florida. Sunny, in the 60s. According to http://www.weather.com/, it looks like more of the same for tomorrow.
