Certified nature-based outfitters and tour guides can provide a guided tour into these coastal treasures, not only providing a great experience, but also the tools to implement environmentally sound practices that contribute to the conservation, protection and enjoyment of natural resources. Among these jewels are the bird watching or “birding” opportunities. In Walton County, four of our state parks and forests are included in the Great Florida Birding Trail. This path marks 2,000 miles of self-guided trail linking hundreds of Florida bird watching destinations. When visiting the Beaches of South Walton, do schedule some time to explore our area. Relaxing on the beach is absolutely incredible, but our area offers much more than just that!
Camp Helen State Park – Bordering the Beaches of South Walton on the east is this park in Panama City Beach. Surrounded on three sides by the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell– one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida it is a wonderful spot for swimming, beachcombing, nature study, hiking, and both freshwater and saltwater fishing.
Deer Lake State Park – In Santa Rosa Beach, Deer Lake Park offers an amazing view of the dune ecosystem and Deer Lake a rare coastal dune lake. Boardwalks across the dunes offer easy access to the beach for picnicking, swimming and fishing.
Eden Gardens State Park – Beautiful moss-draped live oaks and ornamental gardens overlooking Tucker Bayou provide the ideal setting for strolling and touring. It is also a favorite venue for weddings.
Grayton Beach State Park – Consistently ranked among the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the United States, this beach park provides a peaceful setting for discovery, swimming and fishing. Paddleboard or kayak on Western Lake getting a closer look at a salt marsh ecosystem. Nature trails wind through a coastal forest and a boat ramp awaits your craft.
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park – In Santa Rosa Beach, you can find 3.2 miles of secluded, natural beaches with majestic dunes reaching up over 25 feet tall. Home to three coastal dune lakes, Topsail is complete with hiking trails, boardwalks to the beach and so much more.
